Here is an exercise I call softening the vision. Whenever you feel tense, upset or stressed, find yourself a corner in your mind to rest. Then in your mind simply look upon the person or situation or moment disturbing you.

Relax your eyes. Breathe. Feel your eyelids grow easy and your eyes become soft. Relax your jaw, chin and mouth. Breathe. Feel your brow become smooth and calm. Breathe quietly and let all the tension go out of your face. If you are in a place where it is appropriate, lift your lips in a quiet, yet confident smile.

You will feel the tightness seep from you. And now everything will seem different. Less serious. Less fearful. In this state of mind, if you need to resolve something, positive solutions are now free to flow gently into your mind. If you just need to let go of something you’re attached to, softening your vision will allow you to do this.

A softer vision with gentle breathing comes from a softer heart.  A softer heart is a heart open to healing and loving miracles.  

A softer vision calms the mind. 

A softer vision lowers the blood pressure.

A softer vision quiets the breathing.

A softer vision lets tension drift away.

A softer vision allows a healthier life.

A softer vision lets God in.

Now you will see that, “This is a day of stillness and of peace.” A Course In Miracles

“Today I will celebrate myself and everyone I meet.”

Imagine if every time we walked into a group of people we would see glad looks of welcome and wide smiles of appreciation. And then imagine us doing the same for everyone else. How would this world be different?

What if normal is a warmth of love flowing to us from everyone we encounter and through us to everyone we meet?  What if we see each stranger as beloved family and we bring joy to each other’s hearts by just existing?

As children of a Loving God, we must believe this is the way it should be.  From this moment on let us practice celebrating each other and everyone we meet with a friendly smile and a kind thought. And then let’s celebrate our own selves as well. There will be no need to ever defend or protect ourselves because wherever we are, we are always safe. Wherever we go we are always loved and seen as something beautiful, a walking, talking miracle of wonder and delight; a joyous cause for celebration.

“Today I will willingly question my identity and my real purpose here.”

We must start with one tiny step in God’s direction, then another and another, just as a toddler learns to walk. We have convinced ourselves that believing in our holiness and our greatness is egotistical when exactly the opposite is true. Believing in our holiness really means that we believe in God.

It is egotistical to tell ourselves that we are something less than God’s creation. Then we are saying that we know more about ourselves than God does.  How can we know more than our Creator about His creation?  We have made ourselves small through our thinking.  The first step is to ask Him for help in letting go of our tiny beliefs so we can begin to get a glimmer of who we are through His eyes.

Each small step in His direction, lifting our faces to the Light, taking His hand and asking Him for help in letting go of our limited preconceived notions, will bring us closer to our truth. The greatest prayer on earth is “Help me.” This is what it means to surrender. This is true forgiveness; true forgiveness of ourselves and for the world.

One small step, one tiny entreaty, one crack in the armor, one question in our minds can open the floodgate to true Love.  And the question is this; Who am I, really? The sparrow or the eagle?  Let us decide with God today.

Rest now in the company of Angels.
Sunlight glistens on the windows of a holy gathering place where God’s children come to pray

“I will allow myself to trust today.”

Somewhere along the line we got off track.  When did we decide that self deprecation was a positive and endearing trait?  That quiet confidence, the kind that flows from us naturally and needs no words, was egocentric? You know the tired saying, “He/She is so full of themselves.” When did humility become mistaken for self debasement? And being confident become a negative? Not ego’s grandiose postering, but the quiet certainty that we are God’s perfect creations, just as He tells us. 

Let’s pay attention to how often, in a day or an hour, we put ourselves down with negative judgments that we believe are simple modesty.

To believe that humility is synonymous with self insulting thoughts is to say that we are not the way God created us. And if we truly believe this, we are saying that we know ourselves better than God does. It’s as though we need to protect ourselves and each other from our own Holiness.  How can that make sense?

“God’s will for us is perfect happiness.” A Course In Miracles. Let’s share God’s will for happiness for us.

Let’s look at all the thoughts that stream through our minds and often come out of our mouths that build around us a wall of insecurity and low self esteem. And how often do we project our fears upon others needing to bring them down with us? Depression is caused by feelings of unworthiness. Anxiety and worry are made from fear of an uncertain future. How can the all powerful Children of a Perfect God ever think that they are victims of an unstable and unpredictable world?  To our untrained eye, it may look that way much of the time.  But what if we understood that the world only looks the way our minds tell us it looks?  What if we could turn our thinking around. If our negative thoughts are causing a negative world, what would happen if we joined our thoughts with God?  Think of the immense possibilities.

For just a moment, let us accept that on our own, we cannot fix anything here. But then accept, for a moment, that the strength of God in us solves everything. 

Surely for a moment, we can trust Him and His glorious power so far above our tiny self that lifts us up and causes us to soar with Angels. For an instant, we can trust in Him and with a calm and quiet mind and forgiveness in our heart grow still and see God’s will instead of ours. It is here and is as near as our decision to let go of what causes pain to ourselves and others. It is as near as our choice to see our light and choose God’s laws instead of ours. It is as near as our understanding that we know nothing and only God knows all.

For just a moment let’s allow ourselves to be free of all our cares and watch in silence as God’s light fills us and everyone and everything we see. Smile and breathe and say Thank You, knowing that no matter how it looks and feels, only God is real. God is always here. And God’s will is only the same as our true will. As we allow ourselves to be open to God’s blessing, we will experience the Love that causes happiness, health, safety and joyous abundance. 

There is no sadness in God.

There is no fear in God.  

There is no anger in God.

There is no sickness in God.

There is no scarcity in God

There is no danger in God.

Surely, we can make the effort to believe this for just a moment.

There are only gifts of Love beyond our comprehension. Gifts we can only receive by our willingness to trust in Him. Gifts we can only keep by our willingness to share them with others. Gifts that are constantly streaming through our consciousness whether we are aware of them or not.

Now in this moment our furrowed brow is clear. Now our heart is calm. Now feelings of serenity and relief fill us for we know at last it’s over. All fear has disappeared and there is nothing left but joyous wonder and the peace and love of God for all. We have awaken from the dream.

For just a moment, let’s trust that this is true. And then another moment, and another until at last we see that it extends into always and forever.

“I will be grateful for God’s Flowers today.”

 The following exercise is inspired by the spiritual teachings of the Vietnamese Monk, Thich Nhat Hanh.

Choose a flower and be grateful for its existence. Thank the flower for blessing the earth with its beauty. Stay in this moment and let love for the flower fill you and bring peace and joy to your spirit.  Smile at the flower. Say a blessing to the flower. Laugh aloud and be grateful at the delight that the amazing miracle of the flower and all its fellow flowers brings you every day and every moment. Remember always that the flower is a gift from God and as a gift from God it deserves your love, your kind thoughts, your understanding and your gratitude. 

 As you see the flowers as God’s blessings, His joy and His beloved creations, open your mind and your heart a little wider and see something more. Recognize with surprise and delight that you are to God as His flowers are to you. You are His blessing, His joy and His beloved creation. Now read the first paragraph again and everywhere it says flower replace that word with one relating to yourself.  It now reads something like this:

I choose myself and I am grateful for my existence. I thank myself for blessing the earth with my beauty.  In this moment I allow love for myself to fill me and bring peace and joy to my spirit. Smile at yourself. Say a blessing to yourself.  Laugh aloud and be grateful at the delight that the amazing miracle of you brings to every day and every moment. Remember always that you are a gift from God and as a gift from God you deserve your love, your kind thoughts, your understanding and your gratitude. 

Now see all others as you see yourself and be grateful for them as you are for the flowers and yourself.

And now you have learned the secret to happiness, abundance and the perfect life. It is simply seeing yourself and all others as God’s holy flower.  Seeing yourself as God sees you.

Everyone is in our lives to teach us something.

Our main lessons are forgiveness, kindness, compassion, tolerance and patience. As soon as we all understand this our health and happiness is freed from the prison of our judgments and we are lifted a little higher on the rung of Peace. 

Now those who annoy us the most are not our enemies, but our greatest teachers. They teach us where our fears and judgments lie so we can surrender them to God and finally be free. They remind us everyone has a back story that we do not know so we can lift everything to God and ask for a blessing upon them no matter what insanity we see. That is true forgiveness.

”What could you want forgiveness cannot give? Do you want peace? Forgiveness offers it. Do you want happiness, a quiet mind, a certainty of purpose, and a sense of worth and beauty that transcends the world? Do you want care and safety, and the warmth of sure protection always? Do you want a quietness that cannot be disturbed, a gentleness that never can be hurt, a deep, abiding comfort, and a rest so perfect it can never be upset?

 All this forgiveness offers you, and more. It sparkles on your eyes as you awake, and gives you joy with which to meet the day. It soothes your forehead while you sleep, and rests upon your eyelids so you see no dreams of fear and evil, malice and attack. Life is but a series of challenging and healing moments usually misunderstood. Often our belief in time is the problem.

Let’s step back from time a moment. Now having calmed our thoughts and slowed our heart rate, let’s breathe in each moment as though smelling a lovely flower. Instead of rushing through our life, always stressed and feeling behind, let’s let time unfold like a panorama of amazing opportunities and wondrous gifts. If we will let God be part of every moment, we will see our perception of time change radically.

“There is no hurry now for you are using time for its intended purpose.”  A Course In Miracles

Now we’re never late because we are blessing each moment as a miracle. When we do this time seems to expand and everything we wanted to accomplish will be done and more in the same amount of time with no stress and no anxiety. We have stepped back so God can be our guide. It’s only when we try to walk ahead of Him and manage time on our own that we have problems.

When we learn to be grateful for the time we have, time becomes filled with love and blessed by joy. Instead of serving time, time is serving us.

Living calmly in the moment, mindfully aware of everything and everyone, life is beautiful and time, our dreaded enemy for so long, is now a dear and kindly friend.

Our power is in our Oneness.  Our power is not in fighting for what we think is right, but in joining together, and lifting our minds and hearts to God and letting Him decide.  God will not show us anything in the world. He will not say one Child of God is right and deserves to be healthy while another is wrong and should be punished. He will not take sides with His children.  Instead He will show us the world transformed. Transformed by kindness and compassion. Transformed by Love. He will show us our opinions are not the truth of us. Our Oneness is.

And if all else fails, simply remember, “This is a day of silence and of trust.” A Course In Miracles

Help a friend today. Pick someone who suffers and is sad, hurting or alone. Think of someone who is afraid and wandering in darkness thinking there’s no way out. Go to that person in your mind and take their hand. Smile gently upon them and remind them of their power to be joyful and free. Lead them to a beautiful place high up that overlooks a body of clear, blue water. Sit close beside your chosen one. Take their hand and watch the sun rise over the body of water. Tell them with calm and quiet confidence, that the rays from the rising sun are but a small reflection of the light from their own wondrous spirit. Let them know that they are so beautiful and holy, whole and healed that all the world bows down to them and basks in their perfect light and is healed because of them.

Tell them there is hope and all is well. Remind them that everything they need and want in truth is theirs already. Shower them with kindness and allow a gentle breeze to blow their cares away. With absolute sincerity, want for them only happiness, abundance, peace and love and health and safety in a perfect world.  And then see that what you want with love has already happened for them.

Make them laugh. Lift their spirits to the highest heights.  Rejoice with them as you dance together upon a new earth and sing songs with melodies from heaven and lyrics that could only come from God, Himself.  Grow quiet with your friend and listen closely to the still, small voice, now loud and clear, that validates all that you are telling them.

Give your friend a final hug. Look lovingly upon the smiling faces reflected in the water’s stillness and see the truth. You are healing two dear friends and the second one is you.

As you help another, you help yourself and as you help yourself, you help the world.

“I will be grateful for every miracle moment of truth today.”

Time collapses in the face of true forgiveness. Every time a true loving thought comes to the mind of a child of God years of suffering is transcended. It is so important to be aware of how powerful our thoughts are. We are, after all, creations of a Divine Being who has given us everything we need to be at peace. We can deny the existence of our higher selves and refuse to believe there is something more than what we are able to experience with our limited earthly senses, but we cannot prevent the truth from being true.

We can choose to see ourselves as separate bodies with a multitude of perceptions and beliefs, complex, thickly layered and multi leveled, so hidden by clouds of confusion and doubt that we can no longer see the simplicity of our true being. But still the core of our Oneness exists within us and is real, unchanging and eternal. And for this we must be grateful.

“I will allow God’s Love to wash my pain away. I will allow God’s Will to Light my way so I can be free to love.”

Let us lay our suffering, our challenging experiences and all our pain and fear at God’s feet so He can transform them into miracles of healing.  Let us breathe in this quiet moment with no words, only confidence and trust that He Who knows all will free us from a life where true joy appears to be an intermittent promise of possibility and fear seems to be entrenched.

Fear and suffering and pain form a thin layer on the surface of the deep ocean of our consciousness.  Though our fear and suffering may appear deep seated, in reality they are only shadows covering our holy joyous light. In the face of God’s Love, fear is nothing. We keep our fears believing they are our reality. If we look at them, smile gently and release them, we will see them disappear into the light of God’s pure, constant and eternal Love. Darkness disappears in Light.

“You either live as if everything is a miracle or nothing is a miracle.” Albert Einstein

And a miracle is that the choice is ours. What does it mean to live as if everything is a miracle?

We don’t know for sure except that when we are living our best, miraculous lives, somehow no matter what is going on we sense that it is all right and good will come from this. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel. It’s not just a cliche. Let’s keep our focus on that light until our tunnel vision fades and all we see is Light. This is possible and in fact it is impossible for us to not be hopeful. We were created from light and so the tunnel is only us limiting ourselves and cramming our experience into a tiny, dark place where we do not belong.

A miracle, then, is how we choose to see a thing. If we choose to see the world as hopeless and to judge and criticize ourselves or our brothers and sisters or to feel lost, lonely and alone riddled with guilt and pain, the Universe won’t stop us. God won’t understand why we are doing this to ourselves, but if it’s what turns our crank then He must allow it. It’s called free will. 

God created us free.  It is we who chose to bind ourselves to limitations and misperceptions.

As long as we have free will anyway, why not decide to really free our will? Let’s give it to God and choose happiness. Think, “God’s will is mine.” This is the truth. God only wants us to be happy and deep inside so do we. Everyone does without exception. Happiness is our true nature. When we’re unhappy, we really are going against our own will. Does that make sense?

So let’s listen to Albert Einstein today and live as if everything is a miracle. Because God says that everything is.

“There is no Love but God’s.” A Course In Miracles

Like moonlight on a silver sea and watery ripples from the touch of a sea gull’s wing, God’s waves of Love cannot be stopped, but only allowed. Allowed to heal; allowed to fill our being to overflowing and then be shared with all. Now, are we made clean and pure and well. Pain is no more and only Love remains. All we need do is simply be still, look and be aware of another, happier world within us that is our true experience.

“Let me be still and listen to the Truth.” A Course In Miracles

We can splash in the silver sea with joyous hearts knowing that no matter what has happened in our lives, if we quietly watch and wait and trust only good will come from it.  In our quiet trust, we will feel God take our hand and guide us in what to do and say. He will show us where we need to be for our greater good. In truth there is no Love or Will but God’s and His is the Hand that will always steer us right. We are but a drop in the ocean of God’s deep, abiding Love.   And we are free to love!

… to be compassionate with ourselves,

… to be forgiving of ourselves.

…to trust in God.

IN SUMMARY: 

Our job is to know the darkness isn’t real no matter how real it looks or feels.

Our job is to trust in the Light no matter how fleeting it may seem.

And then as it always does, light will shine through and lift our hearts again.

Just as spring always follows winter, so does light follow darkness.

And we’ll see that even though we doubted often and we doubted deeply, it doesn’t matter because God never doubted us. Not for an instant.
